Biography
DEVON RILEY is a drama in education specialist and consultant. Her work is focused on drama integration in the classroom. She is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and received her Master of Arts in Theater Making and Critical Engagement from the University of Leeds. Currently she is the Elementary and Middle School drama teacher at the International School of Kenya. Before her current placement in Kenya, Ms Riley was the drama and arts integration specialist at Baileys Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was an active member of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts CETA (Changing Education Through the Arts) Program. Over the past ten years, Ms Riley has successfully combined her professional theater training with her experience in education to develop arts integrated curriculum

Title Teaching Teamwork Through Drama

Description Drama is a natural process through which human beings can explore and expand their own ideas and potential. - Karen L. Erickson This statement will be the enduring understanding of this workshop. With this idea in mind, participants will learn drama techniques, strategies, and activities that will enhance student understanding of teamwork. We will explore the natural connections that drama has with student learning to develop a classroom community that supports student concentration, cooperation and imagination. Participants will take away from this institute strategies and techniques to bring active and dramatic learning into their classroom, and the confidence to put their new knowledge to use. This institute will require active participation - be prepared to move, engage, and create.
Objective
  1. Participants will acquire the knowledge and skills required to use drama to build a cooperative community in their classroom.
  2. Participants will take away drama strategies and activities that are simple to adapt and execute in their own classroom.
Target Audience Teachers
