Institute Details

The mission of Cognitive CoachingSM is to produce self-directed persons with the cognitive capacity for excellence both independently and as members of a community. The Cognitive Coaching protocols are widely used in International Schools, including in the AISA region, to develop powerful professional conversations that shape growth and lead to excellence. Cognitive Coaching can be used in leadership coaching, instructional coaching and any other setting where coaching adds value to practices.

Key outcomes of this institute include:

  • Understanding of the essence of Cognitive CoachingSM and increased consciousness and craftsmanship in applying interpersonal communication skills to develop trust and rapport.
  • Understanding of the power of a structured professional conversation and expanded and refined skills and repertoire of coaching tools.
  • Understanding of four capabilities for refining coaching skills and increased consciousness and skills in asking mediative questions
  • Increased automaticity with the essential coaching pattern of pausing, paraphrasing, pausing, and posing questions and understanding of the role of data in mediating thinking

Doreen Miori-­Merola

Doreen Miori MerolaDoreen, Now a Co-Director of  Thinking  Collaborative   http://www.thinkingcollaborative.com/leadership/   and a private consultant with  M2   Coaching  &  Consulting.  

Doreen was an  English teacher for over  38 years,  and she taught everything from academic intervention to advanced placement.  She has a  B.S.  from  State  University of  New York at Oswego in English/secondary education, did graduate work in diagnostic and prescriptive reading,  and received an M.S. in English  Education  Advanced  Study from  Syracuse  University.  

As the  English   Language  Arts  Content  Specialist for the  Solvay  Union  Free  School  District  –  a   teacher leadership role  –  she was in charge of curriculum,  assessment,  data analysis, professional development, facilitation, mentoring, and  AIS  for grades  4   through  12.  

Doreen is a  Training  Associate for  Cognitive  Coaching℠,  Adaptive   Schools,  and  Habits of  Mind.  She has presented workshops on six continents.   Doreen considers herself to be extremely fortunate to be mentored by  Art  Costa,   Bena Kallick,  Bob  Garmston and  Michael  Dolcemascolo.  Doreen

Host School

American International School of Lusaka will host this institute.

The host school will arrange daily transfers from the school to the hotel.
